  • Everyone loves this easy recipe because grilled cheese roll-ups are perfectly portable and dippable!

Ingredients & Variations

BREAD Use basic, thin sandwich bread, preferably the kind without added nuts or grains. Taco-sized flour tortillas (6” to 8”) will work, too!

CHEESE Any cheese that works for grilled cheese works for cheese roll-ups; slices are more uniform, but cheese can be shredded as well.

Sharp cheddar is the traditional variety, but Monterey Jack, Colby, Swiss, or any blend of shredded cheese will do. Cream cheese can be softened and seasoned with some Italian or Taco Seasoning.

ADD-INS Bacon bits, chopped spinach, finely diced green apples, diced green chiles, and even a little splash of hot sauce are all delicious add-ins!

In the Air Fryer: An air fryer makes great grilled cheese sandwiches, and these rollups are great in an air fryer too! Prepare grilled cheese roll-ups as directed. Air fry in a single layer at 390°F until golden brown.

PRO TIP: Secure the rolls with a toothpick before cooking to hold everything together!

Tips for the Best Roll Up

  • Fresh bread works best, older bread can be a bit dry and crack when it is rolled.
  • Start cooking sealed side down. Once they’ve browned, they will hold together (and toothpicks can be removed for more eve cooking if desired).
  • Additional butter may need to be added as the roll-ups cook.
  • Keep leftover grilled cheese roll-ups in a zippered bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat them in a dry pan on the stove or in the air fryer.
  • Bread crusts can be dried and crushed into bread crumbs for future recipes.

Serve a pile of grilled cheese roll-ups with some Marinara Sauce, a BBQ Sauce, Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, and some healthy sides like these colorful fruit kabobs, or this fruit salad.
